Job’s Tears for Good Luck & Wishes
Job’s Tears (Coix Lachryma Jobi) (pronounced Jobe) are seeds of an Eastern grass with a history of uses dating back to biblical times. The common name comes from the Old Testament story of Job. They are traditionally used as luck charms with seven tears being carried in a small yellow cloth bag.
A well known wish-craft practice is to hold only seven seeds in your writing hand; utter a fervent wish over them; then toss the seeds over your shoulder into a body of fresh or salt water and leave without looking back.
